Pumping up efficiency
Adam Ferneyhough, Country Manager UK & Eire at DAB Pumps, looks at how the company’s new Evoplus Lite circulator pump offers energy efficient performance reduces waste and ensures buildings are ready for the future.
The UK has been ramping up efforts to make buildings more energy efficient and businesses, schools, hospitals and residential buildings all have a part in the plan. The government’s legally binding target to reach net zero by 2050 is an ambitious commitment. To reach it, emissions from the built environment (which account for around a quarter of the country’s total carbon footprint) must be cut by 50% by 2032 and 75% by 2037.
Policies such as the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) require buildings to meet certain Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings, with targets set to tighten further by 2030. For businesses and property owners, this means investing in smarter, more efficient technologies to cut energy waste, reduce costs and future-proof buildings against stricter requirements.
The need for energy efficient technology is now greater than ever – which is where innovative solutions like the Evoplus Lite from DAB Pumps come in. The Evoplus Lite is an energy-efficient circulator pump for heating and air-conditioning applications and is ideal for larger residential buildings, offices, schools, hospitals and commercial buildings. Electronically controlled wet rotor pumps offer consistent performance in correctly sized systems so there is always the right amount of energy, minimising energy consumption and operating costs.
The Evoplus Lite is very versatile; it operates in both heating and cooling systems, adjusting to fluctuating demands to prevent energy waste. Users can choose the performance level to match specific system requirements. In Proportional Differential Pressure mode, the pump automatically adjusts the head to match system demand, ensuring optimal performance at all times. The Constant Differential Pressure mode maintains stable pressure within the system, enhancing overall balance and efficiency. The Constant Curve mode offers a fixed speed option, ideal for constant-flow heating and air-conditioning systems where a steady output is desired.
The Evoplus Lite is designed for plug-and-play installation so is very easy to install. It has a quick-connect power supply and superseal technology which simplifies the wiring process and reduces on-site installation time. Because its motor head can be rotated into three positions, it is very flexible and can be installed in the tightest of spaces. There is a single button set-up and an intuitive installation interface with an easy-to-read seven-segment LED display. Direct access to the motor shaft also makes for easier maintenance; for example, releasing and optimised operation, enabling quick and easy venting.
To combat common issues such as limescale buildup, the pump features an automatic Sleep Mode that activates every 25 hours, circulating water briefly to prevent residue accumulation and extend the unit's lifespan. Optional insulation shells are available to reduce heat loss and condensation, further improving thermal performance in both heating and cooling applications.
With a maximum flow rate of 12.5 m³/h, a head of up to 12 meters and ultra-quiet operation at just 33 dB(A), the Evoplus Lite is ideal for noise-sensitive environments such as hospitals, care homes and residential buildings. Its wide fluid temperature range, from -20°C to +110°C, makes it a versatile choice for a variety of HVAC applications, ensuring consistent and reliable performance under diverse conditions.
There is no doubt energy efficiency regulations will continue to tighten and businesses and property owners will need to reduce their carbon footprint. The Evoplus Lite is another step in the right direction, providing a high-performance, energy-efficient circulator pump that helps reduce waste, improve overall system reliability and reduce costs making it a future-proof solution for modern heating and cooling systems.
